Richard Jefferson schools Durant

Jefferson-and-Durant

Remember when Kevin Durant complained about how he only wants to talk about basketball and be left alone? It is unfair social media is always talking about him without any provocation.

The latest episode of Kevin being completely innocent came when Richard Jefferson commented on the Warriors - Cavs rivalry. He said it was leading to an amazing rivalry after the first two Finals went 1-1, but then KD joined the Warriors.

Where I come from, in the park, in the street, if you're playing and you lose to somebody the first words are "Run it back, same teams." That's how we grew up. ... They didn't do that. They were like "We need to reload, we're gonna go get our big brother."

I just need to remind you, Kevin Durant doesn't care what people think, he just wants to ball. He is over the criticism that joining at 73 win team relativizes his success. Furthermore, Kevin does not like it when people go ad hominem and comment on the person, why can't we all just focus on the game.

The first thing that comes to mind - my no.1 wish this free agency season is for Durant to sign with the New York Knickerbockers. He was pampered in OKC, the Warriors took it easy on him as well, and he thinks everyone is out to get him. KD in New York would be a fascinating experience.

Jefferson's comments are amazing on several levels. It points out that KD, who wants to be treated as a player and nothing more, has a TV show called "The Boardroom" yet he fails to accept all that comes with being a brand. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Not to mention Durant pulled Jefferson's youth into it and questioned the credibility of "the streets." Here we have two issues. Firstly, I doubt Durant did what he expects everyone else to do - check the facts. We can be confident he didn't as Jefferson explained at the end of his comment.

Secondly, let's say KD was right, and Jefferson grew up in a peaceful suburb - does that make the comment any less valid? The amount of drugs and violence around the corner have nothing to do with something we all can relate to, one of sports' universal qualities. The challenge is to have your crew, and you want to beat the best team on the court with your guys.

Lucky for us, KD isn't sensitive and doesn't care what people think. He also practices what he preaches. Oh, let him be a Knickerbocker.
