People were enraged at the overturned abortion verdict in the U.S., including Ray Allen, who thinks that America offers more protection to gun owners than women’s rights.

U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

In a stunning development, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision which became the basis for women’s right to abortion for 50 years. Some states have already started the bans. In 1973, the Supreme Court voted 7-2 that abortion is a woman’s right and protected by the Constitution. Under the ruling, women have a right to abortion in the first three months but are restricted in the second semester and prohibited in the third semester.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden called the overturn a “tragic error.” Michelle Obama also aired her sentiments, claiming she was “heartbroken” that women lost the right to decide for their bodies. The frustrations have trickled down to the NBA community. Ray Allen was among the earliest to air his frustrations.

Ray Allen’s Instagram post

The NBA Hall of Famer reposted Michell Obama’s quote card and expressed his sentiments in the caption.

“Yes I am heartbroken too! I just don’t understand why a group of people will say that they don’t want bigger government but then want a law passed that gives the government the ability to tell a woman what she can do with her own body. That very same group fought against healthcare for everyone. So, you care about the fetus in the womb but once it’s born-no fucks are given!🖕🏾 We have now crossed a threshold in this country where guns are more protected than a woman’s rights are. 😥😤 if you don’t like abortions, don’t get one! We are going backwards y’all!”

The former Boston Celtics shooter alluded to the recent tragic shooting in the U.S. in recent weeks and that gun laws seem harder to be rectified than overturning abortion laws. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Ray aired his sentiments on social issues. Instead, he’s been vocal about gun laws, LGBT equality, and systemic racism.

Those in favor of the abortion ruling claimed it was a victory. Those on the opposite side of the fence feel like it was one of the darkest moments in history, as women now are obliged to give birth no matter the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy.
