Paul George on shooting over Patrick Beverley - “He’s not gonna grow!”

Paul George knew how to take advantage of having a smaller, pesky Patrick Beverley defending him.

Patrick Beverley and Paul George

Patrick Beverley is known for his pesky defense and ability to cover taller opponents. That was the case during the Los Angeles Lakers' bout against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, as he was tasked with covering Paul George. However, the 6-foot-8 star found an effective way to brush aside the much smaller Beverley.

Former allies

Most fans also remember that the two players used to be teammates for two years with the Clippers. During George's first two seasons with the franchise, the point guard was still with the organization.

However, their time together came to an end in the 2021 offseason after the Clips traded Beverley to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Despite this fact, the former allies have maintained a strong friendship. Several weeks ago, Beverley shared that he was present during one of George's most special personal milestones.

"PG is probably one of my best friends," the 34-year-old said. "I was at his wedding this summer."

Even so, their relationship off the court didn't stop them from going all out during their battle on Wednesday. In fact, Beverley got into the seven-time All-Star's face early in the match.

Prolonging Lakers' woes

Unfortunately for the Lakers, George was a man on a mission, scoring 29 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists to help the Clippers come out on top with a 114-101 win. Evidently, Beverley's defense (and small stature) couldn't slow down an inspired George.

Not only did the loss bring the Purple and Gold further down the standings with a 2-9 record, but it also extended the Clips' win streak over their intercity rival. The Lakers have not defeated the other Los Angeles team since July 2020.
