“Until he retires or until my fuc**ng ankles pop, I’m hounding his ass" — Patrick Beverley on his rivalry with Chris Paul

Not so long ago, Beverly compared CP3 to a ”cone” on the defensive end.

Patrick Beverly and Chris Paul

It seems like Chris Paul is living rent-free in Patrick Beverley's head. On a recent episode of his podcast, Beverley discussed his relationship with the 12-time All-Star.

The history between Beverley and Paul

Why the new Los Angeles Lakers guard is obsessed with Paul is still a mystery to many people. But the two do share an antagonistic history.

In last season's playoffs, Paul and the Phoenix Suns were sent packing home by the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals. After the series, Beverley had some intriguing take about Paul's defense against the Mavs during an appearance on ESPN's "Get Up" show.

"CP can't guard nobody man," Beverley told the ESPN hosts. "Everybody in the NBA know that. What we call him, cone. You know what you do with cones? You make a move. What does the cone do?"

After one of the analysts interjected, "Stays still," the three-time NBA All-Defensive team selection replied, "Exactly! He's a cone."

Some fans might also remember Beverley, then a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, shoving Paul in the back during his team's blowout loss to the Suns during the 2020 playoffs.

Clearly, there is some animosity between the two. And based on Beverley's recent statement, it looks like there is no love lost between them.

Must-watch TV

Now that Beverley is happily wearing the Purple and Gold, he will have the opportunity to hunt Paul on national TV. The Lakers and Suns will face off four times this season, all being broadcasted on TNT, NBA TV, or ESPN.

It will be interesting to see if the 34-year-old can put his money where his mouth is
