“Nobody electrified the crowd like him” — why Damian Lillard picked Michael Jordan over LeBron James as NBA GOAT

Damian Lillard chose Michael Jordan as GOAT over LeBron James citing his showmanship, flair, and shoes, among other reasons that this isn't even a debate for Dame.

Damian Lillard chose Michael Jordan as the Greatest of All Time over LeBron James and explained why he doesn't “think there’s much of a debate” at all.

Nobody electrified the crowd like him

Dame was asked who his NBA GOAT is, and he chose the Chicago Bulls legend over the L.A. Lakers star.

My NBA GOAT is Michael Jordan. It’s just different when you talk about MJ. On the floor, there’s just never been anyone like him. Nobody electrified the crowd like him. You know, the Air Jordan shoe, rocking the cradle, walking on air, 2,3 on his back. I don’t think there’s much of a debate.

The Portland Trail Blazers star added that James would definitely be in the GOAT conversation once all is said and done. If LeBron wins another ring or two before he retires and dethrones Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the scoring list, he will have more reasons to back up the claims as being the greatest player ever.

How Dame is similar to MJ

Lillard is one of the few superstars still playing for the team that drafted them. He is all about loyalty, which showed when he recently signed one of the most lucrative contract extensions ever.

Dame Dolla had a chance to join the Lakers but stayed in Portland. That’s one of the traits he’s similar to MJ. Jordan didn’t join superstar teams. Instead, he went through the hard process of getting better and surrounding himself with better teammates until he finally defeated his tormentors, the Detroit Pistons. Mike did join the Wizards, but he definitely didn't do it to join a team that was about to win a ring.

Stylewise, Lillard is more similar to MJ. LeBron had received criticism for deferring his teammates to win some ball games. While it may be the right play, you wouldn’t expect Jordan or Lillard to pass up a potential game-winner. But, as Dame mentioned, when it comes to showmanship, there are only a few who could compete with Jordan. He’s graceful on the court but devastating as well.

Even if Dame grew up closer to LeBron James’ generation, it’s still MJ as his GOAT. And we can’t fault him for that. The King is the best ever for other fans and players, but Lillard chose someone more similar to his game and thinking.
