Nikola Jokić says Facundo Campazzo will be the new fan favorite

Facundo-Campazzo

Denver Nuggets' free agency wasn't great, to say the least. Mason Plumlee and Jerami Grant Jr. left the team, and Denver answered by resigning Paul Millsap and bringing in JaMychal Green. All the moves they made indicate that coach Mike Malone believes Michael Porter Jr. is their third option. But, there is one new face in Nugetts' lockerroom that will raise an eyebrow or two this upcoming season. His name is Facundo Campazzo.

Anyone who doesn't watch European basketball isn't familiar with what this 5'10" and 194 lbs Argentinian point guard can do. Just ask Real Madrid fans how they feel after one of Europe's best pure point guards left their team. Jamal Murray witnessed it in the Nuggets' first preseason game. "Facu's new nickname is Spider-Man. That man be EVERYWHERE!!", tweeted Murray after Nugget's first preseason game against Golden State. Jokić was thrilled too.

“I'm just sad that there are no fans. He would probably be their favorite player. He makes winning plays. He's been around winning teams as a starter, as a bench player, as the best player. He's been around, and he knows what you need to do.”

Yes, we saw some of Facu's play against the Warriors. He ended up with 8 points, three assists, and one rebound. But there is so much to it. Facu is a pass-first type of a playmaker; he is a floor general, a pick and roll maestro with excellent court vision. He can speed up the Nuggets game and bring down some of that creativity from Jokić's shoulders. When Facu is in the game, Denver will be faster, more dynamic, and more dangerous. He has a great ability to get open without the ball in his hands and be a shooting threat after screens.

The downside of his playing time will be felt at the defensive end - bigger guards will heavily exploit his size. Denver will surely be fun to watch. Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray are two All-Stars that can put 20-25 points a night. And there will be that little magical point guard whose face will almost regularly end up in 10 best plays of the day. There is only one question to be answered, will the Nuggets be better than last season?
