Sometimes, getting back on the basketball court as soon as possible can be one of the best things a team can do after a bad loss. Indeed, that is something that the New York Knicks can probably look forward to.

The team would have thought that they had managed to get the win against their city-based rivals, the Brooklyn Nets; however, a certain player appeared to have other ideas and ensured the Knicks ended the evening with another defeat.

Brooklyn Nets cause heartbreak for Knicks

For those that missed it, the Knicks had managed to take a 103-101 lead before seeing the game tied after Andre Drummond scored a basket. Kevin Durant then took control for the Nets as he managed to snap the tie before ending the game via four free throws inside the final 6.6 seconds of the game to win it 110-107 and score a total of 53 points; just one shy of his career record, but his season-high for this year’s NBA campaign.

Indeed, the loss would have been heartbreaking for the Knicks as they would have thought they were about to end their poor record in the league, having now gone 4-13 in their past 17 contests and losing for the sixth successive time to the Nets.

Wednesday will now present them the opportunity to get back on the court and take the disappointment with them, as they will now go up against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Madison Square Garden arena.

However, Tom Thibodeau and his Knicks’ players might remember what had happened the last time these two teams squared off, as the last showing was just as embarrassing for the team as the meeting against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday was heartbreaking.

The New Yorkers somehow managed to blow a huge lead in Portland, Oregon, last month when the two teams met in February, with the visitors having held a lead of 23 points in the second half before collapsing on the court and seeing the Blazers come back and record a 112-103 victory.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau questioned his players after the game and admitted he was concerned about their toughness following the defeat, and it does not appear that things have improved for them on the court. As mentioned, the team’s overall record is poor, and since that defeat, they have played a total of 11 games and have won just three.

Have the Knicks been able to build some confidence?

Admittedly, those three wins would have restored some confidence in the team, as they came in a row against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Sacramento Kings, and the Dallas Mavericks, thus improving their record against teams in the Western Conference. However, there have been a couple of defeats with losses to the Memphis Grizzlies and the Brooklyn Nets, although both of those have been by four points and three points, respectively.

This will have likely left some with some confidence about their chances of finally getting a win on the board and perhaps avenging the embarrassing defeat that they suffered the last time they played the Portland Trail Blazers.

As a result, the team’s recent form and the improvement that they have seen in their side, despite the clinical edge and finishing touch that is so clearly missing, might provide New Yorkers with the thought of placing a wager on the action when the game takes place on Wednesday.

Of course, since the legalization of live sports betting in the state, a number of New York sportsbooks have since become available to use and place wagers on the action that happens in the Big Apple and elsewhere.

New Yorkers are some of the most passionate and loyal fans in the world and continue to regularly support their teams, with many likely to use sports betting services as a way to further show how much they care and support their favorite organizations, but does the team have a real chance of beating the Trail Blazers this time around? Or will the Trail Blazers win this fixture once again when the teams meet?

What will happen between the New York Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers?

At the moment, it would appear rather difficult to know what will truly happen when the two sides meet, as both have been rather disappointing throughout the entire NBA 2021/22 campaign.

The Knicks, who will be playing their first game at the MSG for almost three weeks, have continued to be consistently bad despite the fact that there have been some moments where they finally look to come to life, but the same could be said about the Trail Blazers, too.

The Western Conference side has been extremely poor away from home this season, which might fill the Knicks with some confidence. The Trail Blazers, prior to their road game with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, had a record of 9-22, thus highlighting the struggles they have had away from Portland.

Additionally, despite the play-in spot seemingly appearing to be in the franchise’s grasp, it would seem they have no real interest in trying to claim it as they can not put together a consistent run of victories. Additionally, the absence of Damian Lillard and the decision to trade CJ McCollum to the New Orleans Pelicans will have hampered their chances.

As we mentioned, though, the Knicks have not had it easy themselves, despite seemingly being able to get over the hoodoo that they have suffered against some of the teams in the Western Conference recently. The team is 13-19 when it comes to playing at the MSG this season, and they currently have a record of 3-7 when it comes to the last 10 matches played.

Julius Randle continues to be a player that concerns many within the organization and fans as he appears to be a little Jekyll and Hyde, whilst the season-ending injury to Cam Reddish following a shoulder separation will not have helped matters for Thibodeau’s side.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully, we will all be able to enjoy a top-quality basketball match between the New York Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers, although knowing what the end result will be is something that might be a little too difficult to predict.
