Mark Cuban ranks Luka Doncic Top 1 or 2 in the NBA: "He’s a beast"

It will be a new-look Dallas Mavericks next season sans Jalen Brunson. But Mark Cuban isn't worried because of Luka Doncic who he thinks is Top 1 or 2 in the NBA right now.
Mark Cuban ranks Luka Doncic Top 1 or 2 in the NBA

Mark Cuban couldn’t help but marvel at Luka Doncic’s potential.

As the Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban is expected to believe in his players more than the others, but when he claimed Luka Doncic is the Top 1 or 2 basketball players in the NBA, he provided his justification.

He’s a beast

In an interview with the FULL SEND podcast by Kyle Forgeard & Bob Menery, billionaire Mark Cuban couldn’t help but marvel at Luka Doncic’s potential. When asked where he ranks the Slovenian wunderkind among the best players in today’s NBA, Cuban didn’t hesitate.

“Top 1 or 2. He’s a beast. He’s so good. He’s adding stuff to his game this summer. I mean he’s gonna come back even better.”

The Mavs fell short of reaching the NBA finals, and they will need Luka Doncic more next season as they try again to win it all. Cuban wasn’t exaggerating when he said Doncic is a beast but ranking him Top 1 or 2 in the league might be a stretch. Luka is a Top 5 for now. Is the Mavs star better than a healthy Kevin Durant, a healthy Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo or Nikola Jokic? Luka is on his way to eclipsing all these guys, but he has to win at least of the two: MVP or NBA championship.

Why the Mavs fans should be excited next season

It will be a new-look Mavericks next year. They lost a potential All-Star in Jalen Brunson but also gained vital pieces in their playoff quest in JaVale McGee and Christian Wood. Doncic will be Doncic, and while he received flak in the past for coming in preseason out of shape, it will be different this time.

The 23-year-old just represented Slovenia in the World Cup Qualifiers and led them to impressive wins over Croatia and Sweden. He will come into the Dallas training camp focused and in great shape. It’s interesting to see how the Mavs will play without Brunson, who stepped up and played big when Doncic was sidelined last season.

For Doncic, this means pushing himself to get to another level. His numbers so far in his career aren’t supposed to belong to a 23-year-old. He’s been a member of the All-NBA First Team twice and a 3-time NBA All-Star. The next goal should be winning the MVP or taking his team to the finals.

With the way, he played in the qualifiers, a retooled roster, and the confidence given to him by Cuban, there are many more reasons for Mavs’ fans to be excited about next season.
