Luka Dončić is the MVP favorite, yet again

Luka Dončić has accomplished many things in his young career. A championship and an MVP could solidify his resume as one of the best young stars today, and according to Vegas, he has a great chance to get one of those next season.

Dončić on the 2K22 cover

The Slovenian wunderkind has been selected to be on the cover of NBA 2K22. It may sound trivial, but being on the cover of basketball's most popular game means you have established yourself as one of the game's biggest stars. Usually, a player is selected because he is the future, if not the current star of the league. What made it more special for Luka is that Dirk Nowitzki is also gracing the NBA 75th Anniversary edition covers. Kevin Durant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are also together with Dirk on the said cover.

For Dallas fans, it could signify the passing of the torch from a legend to the next. Being an inspiration to many young kids playing the game could light a fire in Luka to do better next year. He is now the face of a popular video game. It would be an honor and a privilege to prove the selection is rightfully made.

MVP favorite for 2nd year in a row

The small forward has been chosen as MVP favorite next year. He was also the frontrunner to win it this year, according to pre-season odds last season. This rarely happens in a league full of other superstars. Dallas started slow, and it affected Luka’s chances of getting the MVP award. It didn't help Luka showed up obviously out of shape. That will be different this year, as he'll spend the summer playing for Slovenia in the Tokyo Olympics.

In a report published by SI, the odds that Luka wins it are +400. Next is Joel Embiid, who is +700, and Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, all tied with +800. Interestingly, reigning MVP Nikola Jokic has not been favored for a repeat. If Dončić wins it, it would be another boost for international players dominating the NBA.

There’s a lot of things in store for Luka. An MVP award and a championship will be icing on the cake if he can lead the Mavericks to the promised land.
