Kwame Brown goes off on Dwyane Wade for disrespecting Kobe Bryant

Kwame Brown & Dwyane Wade

In his latest online rant, Kwame is once again doing what he does best, fumbling a chance to do something positive.

With the number one pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards selected Kwame Brown. The Wizards believed that the high school standout would be the key to rebuilding the franchise, but what transpired over Brown’s career ultimately led him to be remembered for constantly fumbling the basketball, along with the several opportunities to build a successful career in the NBA. In his latest online rant, Kwame is once again doing what he does best, fumbling a chance to do something positive.

“Kobe Bryant’s children are not honoring him by wearing a dress. Kobe Bryant’s wife is not honoring him by wearing a dress. I don’t think nobody else is honoring Kobe Bryant by wearing a dress. Kobe Bryant was a masculine man.” - Kwame Brown, Forgotten Kingz TV 2.0

Brown’s statement above is part of a five-minute rant on YouTube that aims to make an issue out of Zaya Wade, Dwayne’s child, honoring Kobe Bryant by wearing his jersey as a dress. Kwame believed that D-Wade allowing this to happen is a sign of disrespect because of the “old-school” mentality that Brown believes Bryant stood for. Yes, Kobe was tough on the court and dedicated himself to the game, but to say that Kobe Bryant stood for masculinity is entirely unfounded.

“How do you now honor a man with so much masculinity, how does tie in with a teenage kid who thinks he is a woman now, turning his jersey into a dress?” - Kwame Brown, Forgotten Kingz TV 2.0

We only know as much as what is on public record regarding Dwyane Wade’s relationship with Kobe Bryant, the mutual respect and the camaraderie from their Team USA days are well documented, and there is no reason for us to believe that Wade or his family disrespects Kobe in any way. Kwame Brown is missing the point here and trying to make headlines once again with some hot take on the internet.

Kwame is entitled to his own opinion, regardless of how ridiculous it is. However, you know what is even more disrespectful than wearing a Kobe Bryant dress to honor the man whose name is on the back of the jersey? Using Kobe’s memory to instigate hate and prejudice towards Bryant’s friend in Dwyane Wade and a young child in Zaya to gain popularity. It looks like more than twenty years since the Washington Wizards drafted him, nothing has really changed for Kwame Brown as he once again misses the mark and fumbles the ball.
