Kendrick Perkins criticizes Karl-Anthony Towns for his Anthony Edwards comments — “I don't like that interview that KAT did"

Kendrick Perkins & Karl-Anthony Towns & Anthony Edwards

Trouble could be brewing for the Minnesota Timberwolves as Karl-Anthony Towns recently aired his grievances about Anthony Edward's apparent diet choices.

Analysts have chimed in on the All-Star's statements, and as for Kendrick Perkins, who believes that Towns could have handled his disappointment better, more so because he is one of the team's leaders.

"It's unacceptable," Perkins said in an appearance on the "NBA Today" show. "As KAT continues to grow in the leadership role, he can't do those type of things. That's a conversation that you gotta have behind closed doors. What KAT should have came up and said is that, 'I have to be better. I have to be better in the pick-and-roll defense. I have to get back in transition.' You know Anthony Edwards is struggling. Look, this young guy is young, he's very confident, and he's gonna continue to find his way. But KAT has to remember, Kevin Garnett was one of his veteran leaders. He didn't air him out publicly, and I know he had some things that he had to clean up. Hell, he had to work on himself getting in shape and learning how to diet and do nutrition. So, I don't like that interview that KAT did, I think it was weak. I think he needs to re-evaluate himself first. It's a learning process as far as his leadership skills."

What's going on in Twin Cities?

The Wolves entered the 2022-23 campaign with high expectations after acquiring three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert in the offseason.

However, they are off to an unimpressive 2-2 start, with two of those losses coming to the Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs - teams that are supposedly tanking after having traded away their stars in the previous months.

Towns has been disappointing so far in these 4 games this season. Even though he is recording 20.3 points per match, he has been inefficient from the field, converting only 41.0% of his field goals.

Edwards' performance hasn't been encouraging, either. He has not taken the leap that fans expected of him. The shooting guard's scoring average has dipped from 21.3 points per contest last season to 20.0 points this season.

Plenty of time to turn things around

The good news is that there is still plenty of basketball left to be played in the season. The two stars and their team can still turn things around. But as Perkins alluded to, some things must be kept inside the locker room to avoid growing any distrust among its star players.

It also helps to bring in the effort every game, which Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said the team lacked in their latest loss to San Antonio.

"They just out-punked us in every way possible, outrun us, out-competed us, out-physical-ed us," Finch said of the Spurs after the contest on Monday. "It was ugly, and it was unacceptable."

Minnesota will face San Antonio again on Wednesday, and it remains to be seen if the Wolves have learned their lesson.
