Kareem Abdul-Jabbar talks about who would win the 1-on-1 matchup of prime Kareem vs prime Giannis

kareem vs giannis

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made a guest appearance on WISN 12 News, where he talked about the Bucks and their chances of winning a title this season. After last night's win against the Phoenix Suns in a crucial game 5, the Bucks are only one win away from winning their second championship after 50 years. Kareem was on that Bucks squad in 1971 when they beat the Lakers and took their first and only title in franchise history.

Much like how Kareem was the anchor for that team 50 years ago, the same responsibility is now in Giannis' hands, having a remarkable series showcasing incredible dominance on both ends of the floor. Kareem was asked how a potential matchup between him and Giannis would look like, and he said he has one advantage over Giannis that he could exploit.

I have no idea. I'm a little bit taller than Giannis, so that might help. That would have been an interesting matchup if I could have learned all the requisite skills.

Kareem's skyhook is still, to this day, the most unstoppable shot in NBA history, and unfortunately, we don't see players use it anymore. However, Kareem believes if Giannis ever adds it to his offensive repertoire, it could greatly benefit him, especially against smaller defenders.

He could certainly use it in the post. He is long, and if he can use the shot, he can do it in the post, and it would help him. If you have the height advantage, the hook shot is a great shot to use if you have those skills.

Giannis is following Kareem's footsteps in terms of success in a Bucks uniform. Even though they are doing it in a completely different way, the level of dominance is pretty much the same, and Kareem admits their approach to the game is different.

His approach to the game is so radically different, but it's working. I think that is very interesting.

The Bucks will have the chance to make history on Tuesday in Game 6 in front of their home crowd. They've put themselves in the best possible situation to succeed, and now it will be up to Giannis and the rest of the squad to bring the Larry O'Brien championship trophy back to Milwaukee.
