Joe Ingles made his way to the Milwaukee Bucks over the summer, bringing expertise that can benefit the franchise. The 2022-23 season will be the first time he suits up for an NBA franchise apart from the Utah Jazz, but when exactly still isn’t clear.

Ingles played only 45 games last season, as he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee towards the end of January. While he did not commit to a return date during the NBA Media Day, he shed light on his rehab process.

I’m not going to put a date on it because I don’t know… But throughout this process, speaking to a lot of other people and all that, and obviously setbacks that can happen and things like that – so far six months have been good,” Ingles said.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ offensive system works like a well-oiled machine with Giannis Antetokounmpo as the centerpiece. His teammates have, on multiple occasions, spoken about the open space they find themselves in – give the attention Giannis draws. Ingles’ deep shot can be a valuable weapon in a system like that.

Ingles has previously played with talented centers like Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, who are efficient with their pick-and-roll sequences. Having played that role for the Jazz, Ingles is excited to build chemistry with Giannis.

The first thing I kind of thought about was playing pick and roll with Giannis… I think with - it seems like it’ll be very easy - Giannis’ IQ, the way he can roll, the way he could finish,” Ingles added.

“Now that he’s on my team I’m happy.”

Ingles knows his strengths and weaknesses well and has built a reputation as a hard-nosed defender. He is a guy many NBA players dread playing against, given his defensive and trash-talking abilities – and Jrue Holiday is one of them. What he lacks in athleticism, Ingles compensates with speed of thought.

Joe is one of the ones you hate to play against. He’s an a**hole, playing against him. Playing against him is the worst because he’s physical, he’s kinda dirty and he talks trash boy. But now that he’s on my team I’m happy,” Holiday reflected.

Ingles is a creative player on the offensive and defensive end. He will go a long way in helping them lift another championship.
