JJ Redick reveals a touching message as a tribute to Chris Paul

JJ-Redick-Chris-Paul

JJ Redick recently announced his retirement, and he shared a special moment with one of his former teammates.

Redick wanted to win a title with Chris Paul

JJ Redick and Chris Paul played together in the Lob City era of the Los Angeles Clippers from 2013 to 2017. In those four years, the team got close to breaking through the NBA finals barrier but failed. Looking back, Redick honored his former point guard with a touching message just before announcing his retirement.

“What I said to him was the only thing I would change about my career in terms of an outcome I wish I’d won a championship and I said if there's one person that I played with in my career that I could win that championship with it was you and I mean that sincerely I wish it was Chris.”

Redick made the Finals with the Orlando Magic but barely played when he was younger. Plus, the core of the Clippers during the Lob City era was strong with Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Paul, Redick, and Jamal Crawford. Even Blake Griffin admitted they have no one else to blame but themselves for their playoff collapses.

Redick had a chance to win one with the revamped Dallas Mavericks team next season. However, he knew his time had come. Kudos to the veteran shooting guard for walking away on his own terms. Redick claimed it was time for him to be a father, and no amount of money or number of rings could replace that time with family.

Can Chris Paul win one for Redick?

CP3 is still gunning for that elusive title 16 years into his career. He knows his window to one will close soon. Paul was close to getting a championship last year with the Phoenix Suns. The team led 2-0 in the NBA finals against the Milwaukee Bucks, but a defensive lapse on the part of Monty Williams turned the tide in Giannis Antetokounmpo’s favor.

With the teams in the West such as L.A. Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Dallas Mavericks making roster improvements, it remains to be seen if the Suns can replicate their feat last season. Some argue that they only reached the Finals because the Golden State Warriors and the L.A. teams were hobbled with injuries. Chris Paul is already a future Hall-of-Famer. Winning a title before he retires could be a nice fitting end for his career. However, if he fails to win one, it would not change that he was one of the best to ever play in the point guard position.
