“If you literally have those shoes from those games, they’re exploded.”

Sore left knee, bruised left knee, ankle, ankle, ankle. This is the list of Lonzo Ball's injuries between January 2018 and January 2019. Some players get injured more, some are just unlucky but with Lonzo, it seems his shoes were a contributing factor in his injury history.

While on Josh Hart's podcast, Lonzo shared his entire Big Baller Brand experience and how the shoes influenced his play:

Cause they were my shoe. I had to debut them. We went so far with it. I’m like, ‘Cool, I can get a quarter in, but that’s it. We gotta switch them every quarter.'

Lonzo had to switch shoes every quarter because he didn't feel they would hold up much longer. Let me remind you they were priced at $500 a pair. Quite the price for 12 minutes of basketball.

Lonzo said he would work out in LeBron's and sometimes play in Kobe's, but was still promoting his BBB shoe as much as possible. The brand infamously failed to deliver and would end up in a lawsuit after it was found out $1.5 million was missing from the company. He will now switch to Nike altogether and we hope this will improve his health and time spent on the court.

The other contributing factor should be his move to the Pelicans. The Lakers spend a lot of players and "the Laker brand", but not on supporting staff. The Pelicans were known for the same thing until recently when Gail Benson, the Pelicans owner, approved spending on new staff.

The Pelicans GM David Griffin brought his old colleagues from Phoenix. While the Suns are the worst NBA franchise in a lot of ways, their sports performance department has always been in high esteem.

Let's hope that with new shoes and a better workout regime, Lonzo and his teammates will spend more time on the court than off it.
