Luka Doncic is the Mavericks' most idolized player and has been that for some time now. But, Doncic isn't the only European adored by the masses. The 7'4" behemoth from Serbia Boban Marjanovic is beloved wherever he goes. Boban was often used as a rotational player for the Mavs but was highly impactful on both ends of the court. And most importantly, he was a real character on and off the court.
Doncic misses his bud
When the Houston Rockets traveled to Dallas to face the Mavericks, the home organization played a video showcasing Boban's time with the franchise before he moved to Houston and joined the Rockets. Marjanovic was among the four players traded to the Rockets for Christian Wood. Boban was loved by the Mavericks fandom and was always appreciated for his goodwill toward his teammates.
The Mavs surely heard Luka's wish to team up with Bojan again. Don't be surprised if we see him in a Mavs uniform again.
Mavericks' amazing European connection
Over the years, Dallas Mavericks have managed to recruit and sign some of the best European talents. It's fair to say that they possess a deep association with Europe. Dirk Nowitzki is the definition of a loyal superstar who didn't ask out, but stuck with the team through the rough times and earned eternal glory by leading the Mavs to the top in 2011.
Fast-forward to 2022, and you can hear the Mavericks faithful chant "Luka Magic" from the stands as Doncic is rising in the ranks to become one of the best players in the NBA. Doncic had a great connection with Boban, but his and the Mavs European connection didn't end with Boban's departure. Dirk isn't on the court anymore, but in Maxi Kleber, the Mavs still have a player representing Wurzburg, Germany.
