Goran Dragic fires back at Gilbert Arenas for his comments on Giannis Antetokounmpo -- “Giannis in the MVP. Gilbert Arenas is not. Was he ever the MVP?”

Dragic's response to Arenas is perfect, and hopefully it will make him think twice before he unleashes his freezing cold takes in the future

Gilbert Arenas recently caught a lot of flack for criticizing Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo as he leads his native country Greece during the EuroBasket 2022 tournament this summer. Arenas said that he believes that Antetokounmpo hasn’t fully learned the game of basketball and hasn’t really improved his play despite his dominant stretch of basketball over the past few seasons.

Goran Dragic comes to the defense of Giannis Antetokounmpo

Many believed Arenas’ comments were blatantly incorrect, including Chicago Bulls guard Goran Dragic. Dragic has been competing against Antetokounmpo in EuroBasket this summer with Slovenia, meaning he has seen Giannis’ skills firsthand. It’s safe to say that he disagrees with Arenas’ flaming hot take here.

When asked about Arenas’ comments, Dragic fired some shots at Arenas while defending Antetokounmpo in the process. Dragic believes Arenas is in no position to criticize Antetokounmpo, considering Giannis has been one of the best players in the league and a league MVP. In contrast, Arenas was never one of the best players in the league and never won an MVP. It was a strong response from Dragic, who clearly didn’t like Arenas’ take.

“Giannis is the MVP. Gilbert Arenas is not. Was he ever the MVP? I don’t think so. So he can’t talk about Giannis. Giannis won the championship, won the MVP award. He has been the defensive player of the year," Dragic said EuroHoops

Goran Dragic’s response to Gilbert Arenas’ puzzling take is perfect

Dragic summarizes how most people have felt about Arenas’ comments in a few short words. Giannis has accomplished much more than Arenas did in his career, and he’s still just 27 years old. It’s fascinating to see Arenas believe that Antetokounmpo hasn’t fully learned the game of basketball when he’s miles ahead of pretty much every other player in the league.

Arenas was a solid scorer during his career, but he was known more for his love of firearms than basketball. It’s clear that Antetokounmpo is a better player than Arenas, and Dragic is correct to say he can’t talk about Giannis the way he did because he has no reason to be saying that.

Arenas has had some interesting takes throughout his post-playing career, but this one probably takes the cake. Arenas has no business taking shots at Antetokounmpo, especially for the reason he mentioned. Dragic comes in and puts Arenas in his place, so hopefully, this will end Arenas’ desire to diss Antetokounmpo in the future.
