Zion Williamson is already out of the summer league because of an injury he received in his first game for the New Orleans Pelicans. This injury initiated talks about the possibility for Zion to survive the upbeat tempo of the NBA and 82 games in the regular season. It's fair to say, Zion looks like he is out of shape, especially since he is listed at close too 290 pounds. The only person heavier in the NBA is Boba Marjanovic, who is around 8 inches taller than Zion.
In his podcast "No Chill Gill", Gilbert Arenas said how the coaches are doing the wrong thing if they are planning to play him at the center position or even the power forward spot. In Arenas's mind, Zion's natural position is a shooting guard because he will develop a consistent jump shot in the next couple of seasons.
"His advantage is shooting guard. At 6'6", 6'7", 245 shooting guard coming down the hill. That is where he is godlike. You have your 42 inch vertical with a strong body coming downhill all the time at you. They say he can't shot but Dwyane Wade couldn't shot when he first came in. You learn but nobody stopped Wade from hitting the basket. That is his advantage because his body is a shooting guard."
Like a lot of people, Arenas is concerned about Zion's weight and thinks the intensity of an NBA game will put too much stress on his body unless he changes his regime on time.
"He is too heavy. If they keep this up with him he will be going to hurt himself. They keep saying we've never seen this type of body that moves and flies like his. This means we've never seen that type of a weight jump up and down for 82 games. You can't allow this kid to stay at this weight because if he stays at this weight the chances of him getting hurt is very likely."
