After a tremendous regular season with the Bucks, Giannis Antetokoumnpo won the MVP award in a close race between him and James Harden, who had a historic season by all measures. A lot of fans and analysts believed Harden should have won the MVP award simply because of his scoring achievements, however, the argument in favor of Giannis was that his team was more successful both in the regular season but also in the playoffs.
Throughout the regular season, Giannis averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists and lead the Bucks to the best record in the league and their best record in several decades.
During the NBA Awards, Giannis received his MVP trophy and gave a heartwarming speech that brought him and his family members to tears. Giannis thanked his mom and his brothers for the player and the person he is right now and remembered the hard times growing up in Greece.
"Obviously, my dad is not here with me but 2 years ago I had a goal in my head that I am going to be the best player in the league and I am going to do whatever it takes for my team to win and get the MVP. Every time I step on the floor I think about my dad and that motivates me and pushes me to play hard and move forward. Even though sometimes I didn't feel like playing I always show up. I want to thank my amazing brothers and I love you guys. You guys are my role models and I look up to you guys and thank you for everything you guys do for me and I want to thank my amazing mom. She is my hero. If you have a good parent, the parent sees the future for you. She always saw the future in us, she always believed in us and was always there for us. You are my true hero."
