Fan arrested after throwing a cup at Luka Doncic

The Dallas Mavericks-Brooklyn Nets matchup was delayed for a bit after a fan threw a cup of ice at Luka Doncic. It didn't help as Luka finished the game with a monster 41/11/14 performance.

Thursday's matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets was a heated affair as the two teams duked it out in overtime. Dallas came out on top, thanks to Luka Doncic's heroics. However, it seems that a fan wasn't too thrilled with the Slovenian star and threw what looked like a cup of ice in his direction.

Fortunately, the object missed Doncic by several feet. The perpetrator reportedly tried to escape, but security immediately got to them. After the game, they were reportedly arrested.

Remembering the Malice at the Palace

The incident might evoke some memories of the Malice at the Palace in 2004. During that fateful evening, a Detroit Pistons fan threw a drink at Indiana Pacers star Ron Artest, causing an all-out brawl that involved several players and attendees.

The aftermath was historic: nine players were suspended for a total of 146 games (amounting to $11 million in salary lost), five players were charged with assault, and five fans were banned from attending a Pistons home game for life.

Of course, Doncic is by no means similar to Artest. And security has been stricter due to the infamous skirmish. Still, things could have turned out differently had the toss on Thursday evening been on target.

Doncic's hot night

Also, the ice thrown wouldn't have been able to douse the three-time All-Star's hot performance. He finished the contest with 41 points, 11 rebounds, 14 assists, and 3 steals.

The win allowed the Mavs to move up in the standings with a 2-2 record. As for the Nets, they now sport a 1-4 record, which has likely contributed to the growing frustration among their fans.
