Cleveland Cavaliers cornerstone Evan Mobley recently sustained an ankle sprain that has kept him out of action since early October. However, it seems he is progressing along in his recovery quite nicely, as evidenced by a recent video of him performing shooting exercises.
The Cavs are looking to build on their leap last season and contend for a playoff spot this season. But their ability to do so will likely hinge on the second-year big man.
Mobley was a huge reason Cleveland was among the top Eastern Conference teams during the earlier parts of the 2021-22 season. The Cavs made the play-in tournament, but two straight losses in the tournament meant missing out on the playoffs.
Even so, the No. 3 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft was a bright spot for the franchise, averaging 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game en route to a runner-up finish in the Rookie of the Year race. He also made several highlights during his rookie season.
Breakout season coming?
While Mobley has already displayed an impressive skill set and basketball IQ, he still has plenty of room for improvement. Apparently, numerous general managers believe so, too.
The most recent annual survey of NBA general managers showed that the Cavs youngster is believed to be the player that is most likely to have a breakout campaign in the 2021-22 season.
1. Evan Mobley, Cleveland – 21%
T-2. Cade Cunningham, Detroit – 17%
T-2. Anthony Edwards, Minnesota – 17%
4. Zion Williamson, New Orleans – 14%
Cavs fans are certainly excited about what the future has in store for the 21-year-old. They are likely hoping he has what it takes to help the franchise return to its former glory.
