Mitchell is fast becoming a local legend in The Land. His strong performances to start the 2022-23 season have helped the Cavs' ascent as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. After beating the Lakers, the team now holds an 8-1 standing (4-0 at home.)

When the franchise traded for Mitchell in the offseason, there were concerns about how the 6-foot-1 guard would fit with the team. But he has put those concerns to rest with the way he has been playing. He is currently averaging 31.4 points per game, the fourth-highest in the league, and contributing 6.5 assists per contest.

The Cavs faithful is likely thanking the basketball gods that the team won the Mitchell sweepstakes. Fans even showered him with some love right off the bat, chanting "MVP" at Mitchell during his home debut in late October.

MVP candidate

Can the sixth-year pro actually win the MVP this 2022-23 campaign? Several early MVP ladders have him at No. 3 in the rankings, behind two-time winner Giannis Antetokounmpo and Slovenian star Luka Doncic.

But if Cleveland can continue its winning ways and grab a top seed in the conference by the season's end, the team could have its first MVP awardee since LeBron James.
