Doc Rivers: “Boban deserved to play”

The Clippers fell to the Denver Nuggets 107-98 in their season-opener on Wednesday night at Staples Center and The Clippers center Boban Marjanovic barely left the floor for a dunk against the Nuggets.

The 7-foot-3, 290-pound Serbian was expected to play for 8-10 minutes per night as his career high in minutes is 9.4 per game, but he managed to get his way and split the center minutes among him, Marcin Gortat and Montrezl Harrell.

“Boban deserved to play,” Doc Rivers said. “ I said it last week: he’s going to play. He’s going to play every night, and on the nights, he plays well, he’s going to keep playing.”

Boban played the first 9:20 of the fourth quarter before getting subbed out for Harrell, who closed the game.

“We had him in a little too long there,” Rivers said. “They started adjusting to him on the other end and I thought they hurt us. But overall, I thought he was sensational.”

It seems like Marjanovic is earning his time on the floor by getting more minutes at least 10-12 minutes of playing time each game especially when he is feeling it.

Boban was traded on January 29, 2018, to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Blake Griffin, Willie Reed, and Brice Johnson as part of a player swap with the Detroit Pistons.

He averaged 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season for the Pistons and Clippers.
