It has been a tough year for the National Basketball Association in terms of TV ratings. The NBA is continually plummeting in ratings, and league officials are still confident that this is nothing to worry about. The current consensus on the issue is that the drop should be attributed to the long list of injuries as well as load management.
There is some logic to this because some of the most famous NBA stars have been out this season — Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Zion Williamson, to name a few. Ok, Zion just returned to give the Pelicans one last Playoff push, and this will probably generate more viewership in the coming months.
Many will argue the officials are the primary reason for the drop in TV ratings. NBA officials have been under attack for a long time and truth to be told; you will rarely find someone who admires them and thinks they are doing a great job.
Here's the tweet that went viral after the Utah and Portland game, after Damian Lillard had retweeted it:
After watching the replay, it is obvious what had happened — a horrific mistake by the refs in crunch time in a game that could have gone either way. The internet exploded after the game:
Rudy Gobert himself said the play was goaltending during the post-game interview. It is staggering that in this day and age, with all the technology we possess, coaches are still not able to challenge the play, especially given the circumstances.
