Damian Lillard responds to Patrick Beverley’s comments -“Con man. Flip from above the rim”
The Los Angeles Lakers' strange 2022-23 season continued on Sunday night in their game against the Portland Trail Blazers. After falling behind by 25-points heading into the half, thanks in large part to the fact that they were outscored 45-13 in the second quarter, Los Angeles managed to pull off a wild comeback and pick up a 121-112 win over Portland in a game they really had no business winning.
Lillard responds to Beverley’s postgame comments about him
There was quite a lot of chippiness throughout this game, with Patrick Beverley and Damian Lillard chirping at each other throughout the game. Beverley ended up getting the last laugh with L.A. winning the game, while Lillard ended up struggling through a rough shooting night (24 PTS, 10 AST, 6 REC, 5-17 FG) while watching his team suffer a horrible collapse.

Beverley didn’t let up when it came to his taunting of Lillard just because the game was over and took a chance to get another not-so-subtle dig in at Lillard in his postgame comments. Lillard eventually saw what Beverley had to say and had a hilarious response on Twitter that will likely make many basketball movie fans happy.
Lillard delivers a hilarious comeback to Beverley
For those not familiar with the movie “Above The Rim” this tweet may mean nothing to you immediately. Don’t worry, because many folks (myself included) were also initially very confused about what this tweet meant. But after some quick research, what Lillard is saying here makes a lot more sense.
Lillard calls Beverley a con man before referring to him as the character “Flip” from Above The Rim. According to the Wikipedia page of the movie, Flip is a “homeless crackhead who played basketball in high school” who also happens to be a con man. So Lillard is labeling Beverley as a con man, a crackhead, or maybe a bit of both.
Whichever way you cut it, it’s clear that Beverley and Lillard are not on great terms with each other, hence their tension-filled interactions over the past 24 hours. These two squads will square off one more time this season in February, and it will be interesting to see if these guys continue to go at each other or if cooler heads prevail. Based on what we know about both Beverley and Lillard, though, it wouldn’t be surprising if their next matchup is chippy as well.
