“We just play soft” — Anthony Edwards calls out his teammates after the Minnesota Timberwolves lose yet another game

Anthony Edwards has been prolific since making his debut in the NBA in 2020 when the Minnesota Timberwolves picked him up as the overall No. 1 pick. He is a stellar talent and a pure steamroller when he attacks the rim. But as of right now, the SG is not pleased with the team's performance after the Wolves' season record dropped to 5-6.

What went wrong?

As good as Edwards is playing right now, the Timberwolves have dropped four of their previous five contests, with their lone victory coming at home over the Houston Rockets, who are currently in last place. The most recent defeat occurred on Monday against the New York Knicks, where the team trailed in the first quarter and never truly recovered.

Adding Rudy Gobert to a team that finished 46-36 last year is a letdown for a group with great expectations going into the season. The T-Wolves looked cohesive in the first two weeks of the season, but even then, there seemed to be some underlying hostility ensuing amongst the roster.

Edwards was outspoken about his anger with the team's poor run in form and the squad as a whole.

"We play soft, man. Like, every bump, we flying all over the place, including myself. Teams just coming in like, 'We're going to take their heart,' and that's what's going on. We're down 20 every game! We've got to figure it out," he said.

Can the Timberwolves become a strong contender?

The Timberwolves do possess some good players in both their offensive and defensive departments. The point to ponder is whether the team can progress in league with consistency and good performance.

With a team that includes Edwards, Gobert, Karl-Anthony Towns, and others, talent is not the problem. It appears that a shift in mindset is necessary for Minnesota to become a serious competitor.
