The Boston Celtics are playing a very peculiar type of basketball for the past couple of weeks and it’s definitely something that is not showing positive results. At one moment, they look like a championship caliber team, however, on the other hand, there are games where they play like a team willing to tank for the first round picks next summer.
Last night’s game against the Orlando Magic was a good example of the mess that is currently on display with the Celtics.
Kyrie Irving as the main star of this team and someone who has championship playing experience and he wasn’t happy with the last shot Jayson Tatum took to try and save the game.
AL Horford was supposed to get the ball but Hayward decided to go with Tatum and that wasn’t the plan so Irving got really frustrated with Hayward and the decision he made in crunch time.
“You were supposed to throw it to Al Horford”
After the game, Irving told the reporters what the team needs to do in order to win the ultimate prize and it’s definitely harder this time than it was last season.
“The young guys don’t know what it takes to be a championship level team. What it takes every day. And if they think it is hard now, what do they think it will be like when we’re trying to get to the Finals?”
There were no expectations last year. Everyone played free and easy. Everyone surpassed whatever they expected for themselves. This year? We all have high expectations. The players, the coaches, everyone. And that’s good, but we aren’t doing it yet.”
Irving also said he is ready to take more responsibility on himself and show the leadership in the crucial moments.
“We can get there. We’ve got to be better. I’ve got to be better. We need to win these games on the road. That’s on me as a leader. I need to be a better leader and to help get us there.”
