Kobe Bryant is not happy with players canceling their participation with Team USA in the FIBA World Cup

FIBA World Cup in basketball is scheduled to start on September 15th in China and a lot of international teams are rounding up their best players in order to possibly beat the USA who are always a clear favorite in those matchups. Fortunately for other teams, a lot of All-Stars have said they are not interested in playing this summer in order for them to get prepared for the upcoming season.

Kobe Bryant who played for Team USA during two Olympic tournaments said the international players have caught up with the USA. This also supports the fact, that the game itself has evolved and is now played in every part of the world. Kobe is also aware of the fact some teams might even surprise this year especially if they win a couple of games in a row.

“I think the parity is unlike it’s ever been before. I think it’s a testament to how much the game is growing. But you can absolutely see one of these emerging countries come forward and have a big tournament. You know how tournaments go — one team gets momentum and gets hot, then off you go.”

While international teams are trying to send their best players, the USA has problems with its main superstars canceling the invitation which in Kobe Bryant’s mind is a mistake.  Bryant has a very healthy attitude and says there is no greater experience than playing for your country and representing it on the world stage. He also said that experience can be beneficial especially for those players who are healthy and are able to participate.

“You’re playing for your country and that can’t be understated. It’s our small role of doing what we can for our great nation. And on top of that, your career is going to be over before you know it. You’re going to blink and you’ll be retired. You’ll wish you had those experiences. So don’t leave anything on the table. If you’re healthy enough to play, you absolutely should play.”
