This year’s free agency was one of the most exciting in recent years and it completely changed the powershift in the NBA. The Clippers are the biggest winners landing Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who are probably the best two-way players in the NBA. It was well known that the Clippers were aiming for Kawhi but when they surprisingly landed George, this turned a lot of heads around the league towards the Clippers organization.
In a recent interview on ESPN with Kobe Bryant, he touched upon the main reasons why Kawhi and George signed with the Clippers rather than the Lakers. Bryant believes both of them wanted the challenge which means turning the Clippers franchise around and finally bring it a championship. The Clippers are also a stable organization moving in the right direction with a passionate owner who already proved he is willing to make the right moves in the right time.
“He wanted the challenge of trying to turn the Clippers around. He saw a great opportunity of Paul George wanting to participate and that challenge with him. Both kids are from L.A. and the Lakers weren’t their favorite team. I think they both saw this as an opportunity, as a challenge to try and take the Clippers organization that says all the right things and has been doing the right things in terms of turning the team in the right direction. They saw it as a great chance and be apart of it.”
