One of the biggest supporters and promoters of WNBA is, without a doubt Kobe Bryant, who is vocal about the importance of women participating in the sport that made him a superstar. Kobe was able to transfer the passion about the game to one of his younger daughters, who is already looking like her dad in some games. Bryant is even involved in coaching her team, which presents a certain amount of challenge because women basketball doesn’t have a lot of viewership, and there are many obstacles on the way.
In a recent interview with CNN, Kobe was asked whether he believes some WNBA players can match up against some of their colleagues from the NBA. Kobe, surprisingly enough, said that there are a few of them that would present a challenge.
“I think there are a couple of players that can play in the NBA right now, honestly. There are a lot of players that have a lot of skills that can do it. Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Elena Delle Donne. There are a lot of great players out there, and they can most certainly keep up with them.”
Bryant’s flattery might be a bit inappropriate simply because there is no way any of these players present a real problem for an NBA player. The players he mentioned are great WNBA players and real role-models for any girls who want to play basketball. However, saying they are almost as good some NBA players is just absurd in this specific case.
