In mid-November, Adrian Wojnarowski reported James Harden wants out of Houston, with the Nets being his preferred destination. The reason – teaming up with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, after the two reportedly talked to The Beard about potentially coming to Brooklyn. But according to KD, that conversation never happened.

Just a friendly reminder, Durant did the same thing after a video of him, and Kyrie talking in a tunnel at the ’19 All-Star game went viral. In fact, both of them denied it being about their free agency decisions and potentially teaming up in New York. However, months later, after it was announced KD and Irving were about to join forces with the Nets, the superstar forward confirmed their decision was made right in that tunnel.
The All-Star game video where they caught us in the hallway. That’s when it was solidified that we were going somewhere. They didn’t know for a fact where it was, but it was somewhere.Kevin Durant, The Boardroom
Only time will tell, but Durant might end up talking about their workout in LA as another “where they caught us,” since that’s where the talk apparently went down. One thing’s for sure; he’ll continue denying it all the way to the moment Harden puts the Nets jersey on. If he does it of course. There’s this thing called tampering, and a lot of the guys have been fined for less. Kevin won’t put himself at risk for the better of the NBA media, that’s for sure.
But like with any other superstar in trade talks, this question will continue to pop up, and most of the time, it’ll be directed to Durant and Irving. It’ll be interesting to see how the two will be handling that situation. Some viral videos are definitely on the way.
Meanwhile, James Harden is still a Rocket and will start the season as a Rocket, as Houston is willing to “get uncomfortable” with him unless a team meets the asking price. And while the Rockets remain adamant about trading him there, the Brooklyn Nets are still Harden’s preferred destination.
