Kawhi was asked about leading the Clippers out of the shadow of the Lakers: “The Clippers have been better.”

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were officially presented to the media as the new players for the Clippers, and it definitely presents a new chapter for the franchise. Both players were added to an already existing team that made the playoffs last year so, with the new additions, there is a lot of hope among the Clippers fans this might be their year.

During the press conference, Kawhi was asked by the reporter what are the chances for the Clippers to dethrone the Lakers as the best team in Los Angeles. Kawhi said the Clippers are a better team than the Lakers for years now which is actually not far from the truth if you look at their playoff appearances in the last 5,6 seasons. NBA Finals MVP also believes the media has a big influence on who gets the most coverage and in a typical Kawhi fashion, he said he hopes to not get any even if they win a championship next season.

“As far as the last few years from the basketball standpoint, the Clippers have been better. It’s media, they are going to get the attention. The Los Angeles Lakers have been winning championships for a long time but it’s just the media aspect.  Even if we do win who knows how the coverage will change. I don’t feel like I am focused on that. I just want to win and I do things to make myself and my teammates happy. Whatever is our goal in mind that is going to be my focus and drive to makes us happy. If we go out and win a championship and don’t get any coverage that is fine with me, I’m good.”
