Kawhi Leonard says he was a big Allen Iverson fan when growing up

Los Angeles Lakers are the most popular franchise in the NBA with the largest fan base in the world. A significant majority of these fans come from California and Los Angeles, however, over the years the Lakers have branded themselves as the most prestigious ball club, and their fan base is enormous even outside of the US.

One of the best players in the league today Kawhi Leonard, was born and raised in Los Angeles but he wasn’t a Los Angeles Lakers fans when growing up. In a recent interview, he was asked if he was also the fan of the team in purple and gold and he gave a very unexpected answer.

At that time he was a fan of none other than The Answer himself. Allen Iverson was his favorite player, and we all remember the show Iverson put on against the Lakers in the 2001 NBA finals. Kawhi also mentioned all of his family members were Lakers fans.

“I liked Allen Iverson. I was an A.I. fan. I didn’t like the Lakers.”

What is interesting is that Kawhi could be the primary target for Magic Johnson next summer. Kawhi will be a free agent next summer, and the chances of him signing are high because that means he can play at home and immediately compete for a championship with LeBron James and the rest of the young squad in LA.

There has also been an indication of the 76ers being interested in Kawhi, but we’re not going to make any predictions at the moment because he’s having a great season with the Toronto Raptors so far.

Leonard, who is a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and one-time NBA Finals MVP is averaging 26.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game this season. Toronto Raptors are currently the best team in the East, having an impressive 10-1 record in the start.
