Kareem Abdul-Jabbar shares why he is not convinced the Bucks can win an NBA championship

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made a guest appearance on The Jump, where he talked about his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks, and their chances for winning the championship this season. Interestingly Kareem is not convinced they can win it all this year even though he believes they are a great team, but in his opinion, something is missing that can potentially elevate the Bucks past other teams.

I’ve been there, and I’ve seen them play, but I don’t know what it is. Sometimes it’s just that you can’t get the right team to go as far as you want it to go, but it’s still a great team and wins the support of all the fans. They will just have to figure out a better approach.

In game 5 last night, the Bucks had the perfect opportunity to win the game but they didn’t hope Kevin Durant would explode in the way he did. He was doing everything he could to keep the Nets in the game when they were down by 16 points, and he was successful in securing a big win. Jabbar believes the Bucks will need to change their strategy in guarding Durant next game because he proved that he is still one of the best players in the NBA.

No, not at all. KD would kill those guys, and I’m serious because he can score and then finds an open guy. He can do it by himself and they will have to do a better job on him. The whole team has to play differently so that KD, one guy can’t just dominate like that.

The Bucks missed out on a few opportunities yesterday to potentially win the game, and there was even some criticism towards Giannis for not guarding Durant when they realized PJ Tucker needs help. The Bucks will need to do a lot of soul searching before game six because they need to change their strategy on how to cover Durant. On top of that, they need to figure out how to exploit the Nets and the fact Harden is still not completely ready, and Kyrie Irving probably out for game six. So far, they haven’t convinced anyone they are a legitimate championship-contending team, and Kareem recognized it immediately.
