Paul Pierce made the headlines almost two weeks ago after going live on his Instagram profile, drinking alcohol, smoking weed, and in the company of a few girls. Obviously, that video went viral fast, and it didn’t take long for ESPN to fire him from the show. Pierce was working for ESPN ever since he retired in 2017, and even though many fans didn’t think that was a good enough reason to fire Pierce, ESPN did it anyways.
In a recent interview for VladTV, former NBA player John Salley talked about Pierce’s incident stating he doesn’t believe Pierce is in a good place right now personally. As someone who is a recreational weed smoker himself, Salley believes Pierce crossed the line, or in this specific case, it was evident he didn’t know where the line was. Just like everybody else, Salley was surprised he didn’t keep that private to himself and how it seems he is in a place of discomfort of some sort.
As opposed to his job, I’m more concerned with Paul. I’ve been high as a kite but not on television because I have a lot to remember, but I know the lines. We’re from an era where not everyone had cameras, so for him to have his own camera on, he probably got caught in and thought he was on his close friends. The trip is that he is unapologetic, and he is what we like to call it, being free. Maybe this was the only way for him to be free.John Salley, via VladTV
The main thing that confused Salley was that Pierce worked as an analyst for ESPN for a few years, in which he presented himself as a serious commentator. Even though Pierce had his moments when he said some pretty ridiculous thing, you could see he was enjoying his new job, and with time he would probably get better at it. The biggest problem Salley detected in this situation was the people Pierce was with that night. If they were his real friends, they would’ve stopped him or at least consult him not to go live with what was seen as inappropriate content in the first place.
Even in his commentary, he is really serious. He is really reserved. If you watch him, he has his glasses on, and he is giving you intellect. That right there just seemed like he was spun loose, and it was like yo you’re wilding’. No friends were around him, no real friends because real friends would’ve been like ‘yo dog, no, don’t do it.’John Salley, via VladTV
It’s hard to tell if something else is bothering Pierce in a way Salley might have suggested. He published a video saying better things are coming his way, and just a few days ago, he was offered to host an NBA show featuring strippers by the famous porn site CamSoda. Whether he will take this unusual job position or not remains to be seen, but we hope Pierce finds a new opportunity that he will enjoy doing, whatever that might be in the future.
