JJ REDDICK COMPARES THE HEAT to the 04′ Pistons

Usually, fans are quick to compare any good team without a superstar to the legendary 04′ Pistons squad that played outstanding team basketball. And in most cases, that comparison seems like a stretch since the 04′ Bad Boys were a truly unique group of hard-working players.

That, however, didn’t stop JJ Reddick from doing the same, as, during a sit-down with Tommy Alter, he stated the following:

Can the '20 Heat be the new '04 Pistons?

They went on to praise the Heat, saying how Bam Adebayo‘s recent performance is making him a TOP 10 player, how Jae Crowder’s impact is going to instrumental, and how having Andre Igoudala’s veteran presence is going to be huge for the Heat in the upcoming Finals.

But let’s try and break down this comparison between the modern Heat and the 04′ Pistons and see if it actually makes sense:

  • Undersized yet incredible defensive center (Bam Adebayo – Ben Wallace) ✔
  • All-star 2-way wing (Jimmy Butler – Rip Hamilton) ✔
  • Veteran PG that was on multiple teams prior (Goran Dragic – Chauncey Billups) ✔
  • Lottery rookie (Tyler Herro – Darko Milicic) ✔
  • Steaky shooting PF that is integral to their success after being traded for (Jae Crowder – Rasheed Wallace) ✔
  • Hall of fame coach (Erik Spoelstra – Larry Brown) ✔
  • Facing the Lakers in finals ✔

Looking at the points above seems like everything checks out, but what truly made the 04′ Pistons so great was the fact that their team thrived on magical chemistry.

Considering that the current Heat has been together for only 1 year and are already clicking perfectly, it’s safe to say that their team will only get better.

And that could be the biggest argument for legitimizing this comparison, the fact the Heat might have the chemistry needed to go all the way and beat the Lakers just the Pistons did back in 04′
