Jerry West thinks passing on Zion Williamson on the draft is like passing on Michael Jordan

One of the best basketball minds in NBA history is without a doubt Jerry West. After his Hall-of-Fame career, Jerry West established himself as a great creator of many championships teams. He had a tremendous ability to draft great players and at the same time add superstars to an existing core of the team.

He is now working for the Clippers as an executive board member and is fully involved in the decision-making process. Even though the Clippers won’t be in a position to draft a lottery pick player next season unless they trade one of their star players, West has his mind one the players coming to the league.

During his interview at The Dan Patrick Show, West was asked about the upcoming draft and the top prospect Zion Williamson who will probably be the first pick. West said passing on Zion would be like passing by Michael Jordan.

“I think it depends on the team, but I don’t know how you could pass Zion Williamson, I really don’t. It would be like passing Michael Jordan in the draft.”

West has over 60 years of experience in basketball so he pretty much saw everything you could see from basketball players but he said Zion is different because the incredible combination of strength and speed he possesses.

“I’ve never seen a body, that quick, react the way it does. He has got incredible balance. Everyone now will be on the edge of their seats to watch him play, to see what he’s going to do next…. His game is going to work very well in today’s modern NBA game.”
