Sports journalist Jason Whitlock made some unexpected comments about LeBron James and all the people, especially other players that worship him. Whitlock believes athletes like LeBron shouldn’t be put on a pedestal and are not the right choice for leaders, especially during these times of severe social and racial injustice around the US. Whitlock’s argument is that LeBron’s influence isn’t so impactful as people tend to think, which is a big problem, in his opinion.
LeBron James is worshiped by sports fans by many of his peers bi virtually everybody in the sports media. LeBron is a false god. He’s just a human being just like everybody else. Yes, it’s great he can dunk a basketball, and he’s a terrific basketball player, but LeBron James isn’t really doing anything all that important, and I know that he’s given some money and is the face of a school in Akron, but at the end of the day, LeBron James is a very tall, very athletic, very accomplished basketball player. It’s unappropriate to worship him.Jason Whitlock, via OutKick
Whitlock has been critical of LeBron’s actions for a while now, which created a lot of backlash from other NBA players. Just recently, Matt Barnes sent out some tweets aimed at Whitlock, which initiated a beef between the two. That is why Whitlock thinks it’s absurd that players worship LeBron when he is just a great basketball player and nothing more than that.
The worship of false gods like LeBron James, is reaching a really high level. And you’re seeing athletes prominent athletes, very masculine athletes who worship LeBron James and who can’t understand some of the things I’ve said about LeBron James are just in reaction to his actions, what he says and what he does. And I’m looking at grown men, not LeBron James but his worshipers, other grown men other professional athletes completely offended.Jason Whitlock, via OutKick
Some would agree with Whitlock’s comments, especially when you consider that the NBA is used for a political agenda that doesn’t sit well with a lot of it’s fans. There is also a notion players took upon the social and racial injustice activism without having enough knowledge or experience about the problem and are portrayed as leaders. On the other hand, some fans would argue it’s a good thing players like LeBron have decided to use their influence and platform to speak out against all the issues that the US is facing.
