The most breathtaking locations for a basketball court in the world

Paris-Dubrovnik-aircraft-carrier

If you had to make a hoops bucket list, playing on some of the world's iconic outdoor courts would probably be on it. Architectural Digest recently ranked the 18 best-designed basketball courts in the world. You've probably seen most of them on social media - we're bringing you the ones in the coolest possible locations.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Ranked 12th on the AD list, the Carmelo Anthony Court is settled in the historic La Perla neighborhood of San Juan. The checkered pattern is cool, but what makes this court special is the location. A view of the ocean and the restored neighborhood looks like something out of a James Bond movie. The entire neighborhood, a total of 375 houses, was painted in bright colors, making the scenery breathtaking.

Grand Palais (Paris, France)

Paris boasts a lot of cool locations to play hoops. But in the late summer of 2009, a lucky few had the chance to play ball in The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées (ranked 8th on the AD list). Yep, that Champs-Élysée, one of the most famous sites to see in Paris. A part of the Nike LeBron James Tour that summer, the court was set up in the building constructed in 1900.

Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia

Certain locations are cool because of the view, some are special due to their historical nature, and some are legit because they reflect the passion a community has for basketball. Just south of the famous Angkor Wat, hundreds of thousands of residents live on a 1,042 square miles large Lake Tonle Sap. Locals live primarily on floating boats (on the surface of the lake and its shores) and made sure there's a place to play some hoops. (7th on AD list)

USS Carl Vinson (San Diego, California)

What could be more American than a game on the deck of an aircraft carrier? In 2011, Michigan State and North Carolina played a game aboard the USS Carl Vinson (5th on AD list), with the Commander in Cheif, President Barack Obama in attendance. The top scorer with 17 was North Carolina's forward, future NBA champion Harrison Barnes.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is one of the hottest destinations in the world. Its first fortifications were built in the 8th century, and the famous walls were built at the end of the 16th century. Most people will recognize Dubrovnik as King's Landing from Game of Thrones - the town Daenerys Targaryen a.k.a. Khaleesi burned flying on her dragon. Basketball fans will know it as one of the rare (if not the only) places where you can play ball in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

P.S. One other fun fact - then known as Ragusa, an independent city-state, Dubrovnik was one of the first countries to recognize the United States as an independent nation.
