“He’s missed half the season, he comes out and says stupid stuff like this”

After a long period of uncertainty caused by intensive lack of transparency, the Brooklyn Nets finally had some good news – Kyrie Irving is back. The team played surprisingly well without him, but Kyrie’s first game back reminded us why the Nets gave him a max contract – 21 points in 20 minutes, 90.9% from the floor. Second game back, 32 points in 32 minutes, 63.2% from the floor. The team was winning, everything was fine.

Then the third game back came, the Nets were playing the 76ers. Kyrie had 14 points in 37 minutes, 28.6% from the field. The leader that he is, Kyrie addressed his poor performance, didn’t use any excuses and decided to lead by example.

“I mean, it’s transparent. It’s out there. It’s glaring, in terms of the pieces that we need in order to be at that next level. I’m going to continue to reiterate it. We’re going to do the best with the guys that we have in our locker room now, and we’ll worry about all the other stuff, in terms of moving pieces and everything else, as an organization down the line in the summer.”

It took three games and one poor performance for Kyrie to throw half of his team under the bus. In Boston, he was talking about the young players needing to learn from him. I don’t know if you know, Kyrie is an NBA champion. He’s taking a different approach in Brooklyn, going straight to talking about trading half the team away.

“Collectively, I feel like we have great pieces, but it’s pretty glaring we need one more piece or two more pieces that will complement myself, KD, DJ, GT, Spence, Caris, and we’ll see how that evolves.”

So everyone else on the team not named, Kyrie will be talking to the GM about replacing you this summer. Enjoy the rest of the season! You’d think someone as woke as Kyrie would understand how his words impact his teammates. It is besides the point if Kyrie is right and do you agree with him. With KD back, maybe the Nets need more, maybe they have enough. A leader never names teammates like this, especially after such a poor performance. Not woke. Sir Charles agrees.

“This year is his chance to be a leader, he’s missed half the season, he comes out and says stupid stuff like this. I think you got to be concerned if you’re the Nets. You’re putting all your eggs in these two guys’ basket & if they’re not gonna be leaders, they’re not gonna win.”

Charles Barkley

We have a lot of evidence to support the case that Kyrie isn’t leader material. The man constantly shoots himself in the foot and creates locker room issues. KD doesn’t have a much better track record as well. The main variable that will impact their chances of winning an NBA title won’t be if the Nets find “a few more pieces” to complement the core Kyrie named.

If Kyrie and Durant stop whining and being in their own feelings, and start seeing further than their own nose, the Nets are a championship-caliber team.
