Giannis Antetokounmpo explains why he wouldn’t mind having LeBron, KD, or AD on his team if that means winning a championship

Giannis Antetokounmpo is slowly but surely getting prepared for the next NBA season with the high hopes of finally taking it to the next level with his squad. The Bucks made significant changes on their roster and will once again be the leading contenders in the eastern conference that looks quite different than last season in terms of competition.

In an interview Giannis did for the Greek channel ‘COSMOTE TV’, he talked about multiple things related to his career and other NBA players. Giannis has a lot of respect for everything LeBron is doing, despite being 35 years old and in his 17th NBA season. He still considers him to be the best player in the world, even though it was Giannis that won the MVP award.

Everyone in the NBA community characterized the Bucks as an underachiever and a team that disappointed last season. Despite the criticism, Giannis is proud of everything the team achieved, especially in the regular season. He responded to accusations that he pushed the team to change the roster to get better supporting casts.

For sure I am proud of what we have achieved with this team, starting from 15 wins and getting to 60. And last season we could have gotten to 65-70 wins. But being proud of not having support around me, it’s not true. If I was the fifth or sixth-best player on the team, I would have been ok with that”.

Giannis said having a teammate like LeBron, Durant, or Davis would be a great thing, and he would be entirely ok with not being the main star on a team if it meant winning a championship. He matured enough to understand being the MVP doesn’t mean that much if you are not winning NBA titles. His mindset has changed since he came into the NBA. After having a successful season on an individual level but not from a team standpoint, he is entirely ok to no longer be the main star on the team if that means winning the ultimate prize.

This is a statement that I have never made before. If LeBron and Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis came to Milwaukee, I would have been good with that. I am not interested if I am the top, second or third name, ok? Because I want to win… For sure, when I was 18 or 19 years old, maybe I didn’t understand what you need to do to win. But right now, I am 25, and I want to win because when I retire, that’s what people will remember. And if I got LeBron, KD, Davis, if all those came, I wouldn’t mind at all. I don’t care if I am the top (player) on the team”.

The Bucks will be a team to follow next season because they made significant improvements on their roster, making them one of the best teams in the eastern conference. One of the crucial aspects of their success will be Giannis’s further growth and whether he can make the necessary adjustments in his shooting, especially from the three-point land. Even though the Bucks did a good job in the offseason, there are still many question marks for that squad. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make another move that will bring an additional All-Star to the team, which might cement their status as a leading championship-caliber team in the NBA alongside the defending champions, the Lakers.
