FORMER NBA PLAYER CARLOS DELFINO CRITICISED the NBA because of its poor quality

The NBA is one of the most popular leagues in the world that’s done tremendous things in the past two decades in promoting it’s product worldwide. Despite having the best environment and players get a lot of money, there have been complaints that the quality of basketball played in the NBA is at an all-time low. Numerous fans and NBA analysts have been complaining for years now that most of the game, at least in the regular season are unwatchable, and the quality is not on the same level as it used to be.

Former NBA player Carlos Delfino played in the NBA for eight seasons with four different teams. He was interviewed for Europhops.net, where he shared his opinion on this topic. Delfino played all across the globe during his long basketball career and was able to see the main difference between NBA and European basketball, more specifically Euroleague. Delfino is not capable of watching an NBA game anymore because, in his opinion, players are playing unwatchable basketball.

It costs me a lot to see a whole game of the NBA. It is very long for me to see ten guys running on one side for so long and throwing nonsense on many occasions. I said this when I played there.

Delfino thinks NBA players are, for the most part, athletes and not so many basketball players because the main emphasis is on physical ability rather than fundamentals and understanding of the game. He even went so far as saying European basketball is like a game of chess where you need to have a high basketball IQ and play as a team to win.

European basketball is like a game of chess, it is pure sport. What worlds and the Olympic Games look to me is the best, together with the Euroleague playoffs. Everything is solved from the collective level, with tactics, with intelligence on the track. What there is in the NBA are athletes, not basketball players, because, for them, everything is based on physicality. On jumping more, on running faster, on being stronger. I clearly prefer to see a game by Obradovic than by Popovich.

Everything Delfino said is not something we never heard before. On the one hand, there were complaints, especially from the older fans that the games are no longer competitive. On the other hand, several players like Luka Doncic said it’s much easier to play in the NBA than in Europe. The good thing is that the NBA league is continuously receiving feedback from its fans and trying to improve. These things have some more profound implications because they are connected with how players are brought up and what they learn about basketball and how it’s played.
