FORMER NBA COACH DAVID BLATT WEIGHS IN ON THE LEBRON VS JORDAN DEBATE: “Michael Jordan is bigger than LeBron James”

The never-ending debate on whether LeBron James is a better player than Michael Jordan always sparks a lot of conversation among ordinary NBA fans, players, coaches, and analysts. It’s interesting to hear different views on this debate, especially when it comes from people who were able to witness both players during their prime years. One of the people who recently shared his thoughts on this topic was former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt

Blatt made his name coaching several successful European teams and made a name for himself in Europe before the start of the 2014/15 season when he joined the Cavaliers. LeBron also came back to Cleveland that season and the expectations were high for the team that was coached by an inexperienced coach when it comes to the NBA standards. Blatt proved he is up for the task that was ahead of him and worked closely with LeBron before he was fired in the middle of the 2015/16 season.

In a recent interview for Israel Hayom, Blatt said he was watching the recent documentary ‘The Last Dance‘ and came to conclusion Jordan was greater than LeBron. According to Blatt, the main difference between the two players is the fact Jordan put the team first while LeBron does the complete opposite, and the main focus is on him. Nevertheless, it doesn’t undermine LeBron’s greatness and considers him one of the best players in NBA history.

“Michael Jordan is bigger than LeBron James. He won the most championships with one single team and did not focus on the “I” but on the “us.” But surely, in terms of ability and influence, they are both included in the top five best players in history.”

Blatt’s departure from the Cavaliers in the middle of the 2015/2016 season didn’t end well because the team cited there was a lack of fit with their personnel and their vision” as the reason for the decision. The relationship with the Cavaliers was so tarnished Blatt initially didn’t want to accept the 2016 championship ring, but he eventually received it. In his later interviews, Blatt said it’s tough to work with LeBron, who often criticized his decisions, and it seemed at the time he wants to be the star player, the coach, and GM of the team at the same time.
