Dwight Howard is having a great year so far for the Los Angeles Lakers and has been one of the most pleasant surprises. Howard joined the Lakers after his stint with the Washington Wizards, and now that he is finally healthy is at some moments looking like his former self from the Orlando days. Howard is averaging 7 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks per game shooting at an astonishing 78 percent from the field playing only 22 minutes per game. His efficiency and presence on the floor is a big reason why the Lakers are currently 6-1 to start the season.
In a recent interview, Howard talked about the life-changing decisions he made in his life, mostly surrounding his diet and training regime. When he came to the Lakers training camp, it was evident he lost weight while at the same time looking more muscular and lean than in recent years.
According to Howard, when he was younger, he thought he would be able to play forever while at the same time eating whatever he wanted. Howard soon realized that is not the case and is now putting a lot of emphasis on eating right and taking better care of his health. Howard also delivers a piece of advice that applies to everyone and not just professional athletes.
“Back then, I thought I’d be able to play forever. I thought I could eat McDonald’s, chicken wings and honey buns every single day, but I realized as you get older, you’ve got to really take care of your body, you’ve got to listen to your body. So, my advice for anybody is trying to eat as healthy as you can. Health is wealth. A lot of people try to get rich with money, but try to get rich with your body.”
