Draymond Green: “You can’t really play defense anymore in the league today”

There is a wide belief among NBA fans today that there is a lack of good defense being played around the league. Draymond Green is one of the players who agree with that statement and he thinks players are not able to play proper defense anymore.

“You can’t really play defense in the league [today]. I guess that’s what they wanted, right?”

Draymond also said he is not frustrated with the whole situation and it doesn’t bother him at all because that is the way it’s been for quite some time now.

“I’m not frustrated at all. I don’t care. It is what it is.”

Draymond stressed out the lack of defense in the NBA several times in his career, but he’s been quite vocal about it especially this season when he said the defense is no longer a priority in the league that wants to see more action on the other end of the floor.

“It’s been called pretty tight. We were told that. Defense isn’t really an emphasis anymore in this league. So I think you’re seeing it all around the league with these high scores. We know what the emphasis is.”

The notion of NBA being soft in recent years is fairly true, especially after removing the hand checking from the NBA, however, it’s important to understand that the league itself is changing and focusing more on shooting and not going to the basket anymore. Based on that, the defense needs to be played in a different way than it is right now.

Maybe the NBA will take into the account the complaints from certain players and the fans in regards to the “lack of defense”, however, it seems they are trying to make the game more interesting by enabling players to score more easily than before.
