Paul George showed up big time last night’s win against the Phoenix Suns in a crucial Game 5 for the Clippers. Even though they are already missing Kawhi Leonard with an injury, right before the game, it was announced their starting center Ivica Zubac wouldn’t play because of sprained MCL. It looked like the Suns will easily beat the Clippers, but Paul George had other things in plan when he delivered the best playoff performance of his career, scoring 41 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists.
There was a lot of slander going his way with the fans coining the infamous nickname ‘Playoff P’ for his poor playoff performance and inability to take his team to the next level. His teammate DeMarcus Cousins, who also had a great game yesterday, defended his teammate by calling most of his critics trolls.
“I don’t know where this trolling bulls—t has come from. The internet controls the narrative about these players. It’s become foolish man. That’s one of the most special players to ever lace his shoes up. Give this dude his flowers man. I don’t understand the slander.” It’s becoming quite silly now. Respect these players, respect these greats.DeMarcus Cousins
Cousins made some great points about the unnecessary criticism George has been receiving in the last two years. Some of it was uncalled for, and everyone has seen numerous memes on social media about Paul George and some of his playoff lowlights. On the other hand, George really stepped up big time in this playoffs, especially after Kawhi went down with an injury. He is doing what he does best, dominating both ends of the floor, showcasing he is still an elite player.
Cousins, Ty Lou, the rest of the Clippers teammates and fans have a lot of faith in George that he will deliver in a crucial game 6 back home in L.A. The Clippers will most likely once again without Kawhi, which means George will have all the freedom he needs to get his shots up, and if that doesn’t work, he can help a lot on the defensive end of the floor. The Clippers have enough firepower to match up against the Suns, but George’s performance will be the x-factor if they want to turn this series around.
