D-Rose Calls Game

One of the best storylines this season has been the resurrection of former MVP Derrick Rose. He is finally playing at a high level consistently, averaging 18.9 points, 4.8 assists and 2.8 assists per game. And most importantly he has been healthy for the most of the season.

Last night the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Phoenix Suns at home 114-116 in a thriller that was ultimately decided by none other than Derrick Rose, who proved once again he is still a clutch performer.

He got the ball on the last possession of the game, as the score was tied at 114. He decided to go 1 on 1 with the rookie Mikal Bridges and perfectly demonstrated his patented step back jumper, as he drained with 0.6 to go on the clock. The Suns could not respond, as the Wolves went to win the game.

Rose was a problem for the Suns defense the whole night, as he dropped 31 points (29 of which came in the 2nd half), to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. He also had a good FG%, as he shot 12 for 24 from the field. And most importantly he had one game-winner.

In the postgame interview Rose showed his appreciation for the support he has been getting this season (via Jon Krawczynski):

It was all up to my teammates and the coaches for giving me that confidence, putting the ball in my hands and just believing in me. That’s what it was all about.

Rose has been having the best year of his career after the numerous knee injuries and is poised to make the All-Star game this year thanks to votes of his many fans around the world. After plays like this, you can’t argue he doesn’t deserve it.
