Curry was brought to tears after hearing about Klay’s Achilles injury

2020 served another blow to the NBA community after news about Klay Thompson’s Achilles tear broke down. But the one who took it the hardest might’ve been Steph Curry.

To get that call was a gut punch for sure. A lot of tears. You don’t really know what to say because a guy like that is having to go through two pretty serious rehabs now. But at the end of the day, we have to have his back. We hope that he is around and a part of what we do through his rehab and staying connected with us.

Stephen Curry, The Athletic

Curry learned about Klay’s injury during a conference call with Warriors GM Bob Myers and head coach Steve Kerr. What was an initial shock, Steph tried turning into a cloud of optimism, stressing the importance the Warriors as a whole will have on Thompson making a full recovery. It’s time for the Golden State culture to kick in, as a load of going through two serious rehabs might be too much for Klay to handle on his own. That’s why turning it into a collective effort is of the highest priority for the Warriors organization.

That means providing all the physical and psychological assistance needed. It means not rushing him into making a comeback and not letting his name surface in unnecessary trade talks throughout the season. Because Klay really does have a mountain to climb, and all the organizational efforts should be about making the ascent less steep.

You need to have a big-picture mentality when something like this happens. It’s easier said than done going through a lot of rehab, but there is a lot of time left in his career. We’re going to be there through it all.

Stephen Curry, The Athletic

Curry has no doubt Klay can come back as the same player he was before the injuries. “He’s a guy that loves the game so much,” Steph said. “He is going to do whatever it takes to get back out there on the floor and be himself. That’s what we hope and the confidence that we have. Two-and-a-half years of rehab is tough for anybody. We’re hoping for the best.

One thing’s for sure; the whole NBA community feels the same way. Klay’s in for the biggest challenge of his basketball career, but I’m willing to bet on him to beat the odds and come back the same. Until then, the revamped Warriors roster, with Curry leading the charge, is ready to get Golden State back to title contention. Hopefully, for the last time without both Splash Brothers being ready to play.
