We didn’t have to wait long for Sir Charles to respond to Draymond, and Barkley reminded us why he is the best personality on TV right now. It’s hard to expect that Draymond will have a good comeback to this one.
To remind you, it all started with Barkley talking about Draymond’s lackluster performance without Steph and Klay on the floor. Sir Charles opened the monologue with a “triple-single” stab and then pointing out Draymond isn’t so loud and brash without the stars on the team. Green took notice and fired back quite seriously.
“Barkley should stop before I go take his job though because I can do that well too. He already didn’t make enough money playing, so he needs that job. He also can’t talk basketball with me either. Not smart enough, not qualified. No rings can’t sit at this table.”Draymond Green
Seems all the losing got to Draymond and he is sensitive to his reputation around the league. Green’s impact on defense has always been undervalued and the perception that he tagged along on Steph and Klay’s greatness will never stop. So talking about his “triple-singles” is a trigger for Draymond.
Sir Charles is obviously much more confident and is sure his job is safe. He compared Draymond to the “least important member of a boy band,” and that was just the beginning.
“He doesn’t realize he’s standing next to Justin Timberlake. He’s the least famous person in the boy band, and he thinks he’s a star. And he’s not. He’s lucky to be in the boy band. He thinks all the girls are screaming for him. No, they’re screaming for Justin Timberlake. Enjoy being in the band because you’re never gonna have any hit singles … I like messing with him.”Charles Barkley
Barkley said he wouldn’t swap his 1993 MVP for a ring. He pointed out there are a lot of great players who didn’t win rings and a lot of mediocre ones that did. Simply winning a ring isn’t proof you were a great player. In the end, he had to twist the knife a bit more.
“I think he’s a good player and a great guy. I like messing with him but he’s got the perfect face for radio… HeCharles Barkley
don’thave a TV face. He don’thave a TV face. He could do the job but he don’thave a face for TV. He’s got a face for radio.”
Looking forward to Draymond’s response, but my money says he won’t top Sir Charles. Look, Justin Timberlake needs someone to harmonize behind him so the song can sound so good. There’s no shame in that.
