Charles Barkley made a guest appearance on 106.7 The Fan, where he talked about his future where he mentioned he is looking forward to retirement. After ending his HOF basketball career, Barkley is an NBA commentator for the past two decades where people got to know the second version of Barkley that wasn’t so visible when he was still a player. He is known as someone who is not afraid to share whatever is on his mind, even though people often criticized him because of his statements on live television.
He recently said he doesn’t plan to work past 60 because he wants to enjoy his retirement. Barkley keeps it simple and entirely honestly says working until you die is a stupid notion he wants to avoid at all costs.
I’m trying to hang off for another couple of years until I am 60, and then they can kiss my ass. I’m only working until 60, I’m not working until the day I die, that is stupid. If i don’t have any money by now, I’m stupid, and they should fire me anyway.Charles Barkley, via 106.7 The Fan
Interestingly enough, Barkley also touched upon the ‘cancel culture’ that is evident in public discourse lately, and just like with a lot of things, he keeps it honest on how terrible things are nowadays. He saw firsthand people getting fired because they said something wrong or are not agreeing with something.
“You can’t even have fun these days without these jackasss get you cancelled and things like that. We’ve had fun all these years & now all of a sudden in the last year and a half everybody is trying to get everybody fired. They won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore. I’m always talking about big ole women down in San Antonio.”Charles Barkley, via 106.7 The Fan
There is already a lot of backlash against the cancel culture, and according to Barkley, it’s becoming worse by each day which might be one reason he plans to retire earlier. Barkley was always vocal about the things he disliked and is just one of the many people who spoke out against the cancel culture and how it affects many people for speaking their mind.
